JOB DESCRIPTION
This is an Unpaid internship. The Database Administrator will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and effectively utilizing databases to support business objectives. The Database Administrator is also expected to interpret and present databases to relevant individuals. We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Database Administrator Intern to join our team. This internship will provide hands-on experience in database administration, maintenance, and optimization. As a Database Administrator Intern, you will work closely with our DBA team to support database operations, troubleshoot issues, and gain practical skills in managing databases within a real-world IT environment.

THIS POSITION WILL ENTAIL:
  • Assist in installing, configuring, and maintaining database management systems (DBMS) such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle.

  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, and data integrity checks.

  • Monitor database performance metrics and assist in identifying and resolving performance issues.

  • Support database security measures by implementing access controls, permissions, and auditing procedures.

  • Assist in database schema design, table creation, indexing, and optimization based on application requirements.

  • Learn and apply SQL queries for data retrieval, manipulation, and reporting purposes.

  • Collaborate with IT teams and developers to troubleshoot database-related issues and implement solutions.

  • Participate in projects related to database upgrades, migrations, and data migration tasks.

  • Document database procedures, configurations, and best practices for future reference.

  • Learn about database backup and recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, and data protection practices.

  •  Other job duties assigned.
DESIRED SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Basic understanding of database concepts and SQL queries.

  • Familiarity with database management systems (DBMS) and related tools is a plus.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Eagerness to learn and gain practical experience in database administration.

  • Critical thinking skills

  • Excellent Problem-solving skills

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Experience with large custom software deployments required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related field

  • Healthcare experience is a large plus.
